Landscape consists of layers. As a spatial and material document, it is characterized by capitalist exploitation and episodes of eco- logical violence. The experimental video swallowed matter links a disappearing reservoir in Spain with the increasing mechanisms of economic exploitation and focuses its attention on data centers.
Without showing a data center, the video connects this water- and energy-intensive and almost invisible infrastructure with the remains of a dried-up reservoir. With its original function as a reservoir for drinking water and energy production, the video understands this place as a “feeding ground” for artificial intelligence and explores how technological progress is drastically inscribing itself into landscape. The work regards artificial intelligence as a body full of water and views this reservoir as a ruin in which future and past collide.
